April 27th 2010
Welcome to another Season of bowling at Gourock Park. I hope you like the slight changes I have made to the main page and also that you will find the new features useful. One of them, Facebook, will be used often throughout the season to provide instant news, results, photos etc. I can access facebook while out and about on my mobile, and I think its a great tool for sharing news. The Wellington also has one and I hope other clubs will follow suit.
League Results- Have spoken to Ian Ferdinand and although he will be trying to get the results published often in the Greenock Telegraph, he has promised to send me an official update as often as possible.
An early results service will be provided on facebook as well as on here and to help me do this I would appreciate any help from the club secretaries out there to copy me in on your results email to Ian or use the instant feedback tool, which you find on the League Page.
Results will also be available over on Wellington Park's Website. I am not sure if Ardgowan's site will be providing any kind of results service. My email is Gary@Gourockpark.com
This is my 11th year of providing this service and I intend to cover as many major events as possible but I intend to take a break next year. I am sure you will understand that this site entails a vast amount of work and to be honest, I just need a rest. So from 2011, will only be covering Gourock Park's Championship, Presidents, Stonehouse, Davidson, The Aulds Trophy and League results. Hopefully the events I usually cover will be taken up by one of the other sites.
The Annual Presidents versus Vice-Presidents game was well attended tonight, despite the poor weather.
Three Triples and Three Rinks played 12 ends and it ended up a victory for the Men representing President Alex (Eck) McIlravey (Jnr) with an overall score of 64 v 54. Highest up for the President's team were, John Campbell, Alex McIlravey, Gary Bradley and Alex McIlravey(Jnr). They finished eight shots up over Ian McSwan (Jnr), Ian McSwan, Sam Blaikie and Vice-President, Ramsay Crawford.
Highest up for the Vice were H Kearns, Andy McCabe, Andy Kearns and Michael Stevenson. They were six up over P Watt, Andy Kearns(Jnr), Joe O Brian and John Lamb.
Before the game the New Members were welcomed to the Club and I hope they all enjoy being Members of "The Park" Amongst the newbies were a few 'top names' that I know off. Ian McSwan(Snr), Jim Foster from Ardgowan and David Quigley from Rankin Park. There were about a dozen new members in total and this can only be good for the clubs future and will no doubt give the selectors a few headaches.
The First Four Competitions will be drawn this weekend so be sure to include your name on the various sheets. You have to be in it to win it! Sheets are also on the board for the Nominated Pairs, Non Prize Winners and the Two Bowl events. (Please note! New Members CAN enter the Non Prizewinners, even if you have won a 'major' at another Club)
Once the Championship Draw is available, I will do my usual preview and predictions. It will be difficult to select my winner this year with so many new members, but I will try to repeat my success of picking last years champion, Joda and also predicting the exact score in the final.
Why dont you do the same? Take a look at the draw when its made and see if you can pick the winner.
